Dr. Kazim Mahmood qualified from Guy’s Hospital, London, where he was awarded the prestigious University of London Gold Medal finishing as the top graduate amongst the London Dental Schools. Since then he has completed Specialist Training in Endodontics with Distinction, also at Guy’s Hospital, resulting in him being entered on to the GDC’s Specialist Register in Endodontics.
Kazim (otherwise known as Kaz) is originally from the village of Pendle in East Lancashire where some of his family still live. Having grown up in quite a rural and serene setting he feels very much at home looking after the community of patients that come through the doors of Summerfield Dental Practice in Claygate.
He has worked in NHS and Private dental practices in Lancashire and Birmingham. He has also been a Senior House Officer in Liverpool and Birmingham Dental Hospital with a focus on advanced restorative dentistry managing the care of patients referred in by general dentists presenting with a range of complex issues such as head and neck cancer, oral and maxillofacial trauma as well as developmental defects.
Since taking over the practice from Dr’s Edward and Victoria Bosch with his wife Nina he has enjoyed immersing himself amongst the local residents of the Elmbridge Borough all the while implementing his vision to develop the practice into a centre of clinical excellence. This has involved significant investment to digitise the practice and to equip it with the latest technology to provide the very best care for all patients.
Kazim has also spent clinical time at Guys’ Hospital and Kings’ College Hospital completing specialist training and a master’s degree in the field of endodontics (Root Canal Treatments). This was an intense and really rewarding programme that afforded him the opportunity to treat more complex cases referred into the hospital setting from general practice, work with some of the world leading clinicians in this field along with involvement in the teaching of the dentists of the future.
He passed his Masters in Clinical Dentistry in Endodontology with Distinction (MClinDent in Endodontology KCL) and also passed both specialist exit examinations sat by clinicians completing training to this level both nationally and internationally with both Royal Colleges. This afforded him the opportunity to be granted Membership in Endodontics with the Royal College of Surgeons England (M Endo RCS England) and a Fellowship in Endodontics with the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (F Endo RCS Edinburgh).
His research and thesis produced in this time was also published internationally in the ‘International Endodontic Journal’ and was titled ‘The short-term postoperative pain and impact upon quality of life of pulpotomy and root canal treatment, in teeth with symptoms of irreversible pulpitis: A randomized controlled clinical trial’.
He currently accepts referrals from referring dentists to manage any of the following:
Root canal treatments and retreatments
Apical surgery and apicectomy
Management of resorption and perforations
Management of separated or broken instruments
Management of immature teeth and apices
Management of dental trauma
Vital pulp therapy
